Woolly Thoughts

I was at a Quilters' Retreat at beautiful White Point Lodge in Liverpool on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean over the past weekend. If the waves don't capture you eye, your taste buds will be anchored by the outstanding food in the dining room. Fabric and food in divine surroundings? Difficult to top!

Back to my woolly thoughts...there was a small excellent merchant mall on Saturday and I had a chance to browse some yummy wool. As quilters we frequently cross into fiber art/embroidery/penny rugs territory that requires the use of wool, and as quilters the shop hop goes to those fabric stores that carry cotton and not so much the wool. It behooves us to do a little exploration!

Jane Steele of River House Rug Hooking in Petite Riviere, NS was at the retreat with her yarns and wool. Keep in mind I am immediately drawn to vivid colours and naturally went to her table. Her website is under development under her name and you may keep a look out for it.

Another merchant offered her wool fabrics for sale, but her etsy site is not ready yet. Darn! Moving on...

In other areas of NS, Encompassing Designs is a shop in Mahone Bay with delicious seasoned wool! Rich vibrant colours it is difficult to make a selection and easier to say "I want it all" (in the words of Queen). They offer dyed spots, values, abrashed and plaids. Check out their website at http://www.encompassingdesigns.com

Deanne Fitzpatrick in Amherst is an author and rug hooker offering wool cloth that could be used by stitchers like us. She offers a variety of spicy colours, packets, and the option to choose what you would like in your own packet. (I always run into trouble with that option too). You may visit her studio or go to her website at: https://hookingrugs.com/

Alternate woolly thoughts? It snowed quite a bit Sunday evening, and I feel ready for spring and gardening. Its making my brain feel woolly. Jackie White out of Ontario tossed some Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks in the snow and snapped a shot. They did add colour! Visit Jackie's blog at: http://jabotquilt.blogspot.ca/

Happy Woolly Thoughts Day to you!
