Golden Tree on Halifax Harbour 50” X 44 ½”
This is the second in my series of trees in the Dartmouth area. It is a series about the beauty within the urban and suburban community. The sky is separated into squares and rectangles, and woven with strips of mauve cottons. The tree is under laid with organza and over laid with tulle. Foils are added in the lighter sections of the tree and in the water. Sunset arrives for the day as the tree slumbers towards winter. |

Blue Rocks
Adapted from a photograph take by my father Laurence Davidson. I used a commercially printed fabric for the sky and reflection in the water. The seaweed is embroidery floss and tiny strips of fabric stitched over black rocks. The fishing hut is machine and hand appliquéd. It is machine quilted, extending the seaweed into the border.

On Poor’s Farm Road This tree can be seen on the trails behind the big red barn on Bissett Road in Dartmouth.
The beautiful reds were fun to use on the crazy windy sky.
April 2008
Machine pieced and appliquéd, raw edge appliquéd, and confetti quilting. Machine quilted.

Farm on Bissett Road Size: 23" x 17"
The walking paths near this farm give many people much pleasure. The views and barn can be lovely at any time of year. Dawn brings a soft yellow glow to the sky and the grass is shadowed by purple and blue overtones.
The barbed wire stitched with variegated thread is highlighted by the morning sun and leads us to the barn. The piece is machine appliquéd and quilted.

MacDonald House Size: 19 ¼ x 17 ¼
Using various techniques I adapted this miniature landscape from a photo taken at Conrad's Beach. By making the grass with double sided fabric (using a heat'n bond technique) I created the feel of the razor sharp sea
grass. Shadows on the sand were made using tulle. It is machine appliquéd and quilted.

Over the Margaree Size: 19 ¼ x 17 ¼
The first miniature landscape I created partially by using Jo Diggs technique for layering. The technique uses fabrics with small-scale prints, hand dyes or those like batiks. Thread play is used to suggest waves and some foliage near the beach.
After having some difficulty working on such a small project, I found the landscapes quite enjoyable. It is hand and machine appliquéd, and machine quilted.
